COVID Informations

Arriving from Abroad

All those entering the country – also people who are vaccinated and , have recovered from coronavirus – must complete the arrival form (Passenger Locator Form, SwissPLF) and present a negative PCR test or an antigen test when entering Switzerland (from 16 years). The PCR test must not be older than 72 hours, the rapid antigen test not older than 24 hours. The form and test requirement applies regardless of where people come from or what mode of transportation they use to enter the country.

A second test (PCR test or antigen test) carried out in Switzerland is required between the fourth and seventh day after entry for persons aged 16 and over who have not been vaccinated or have not recovered and who stay in Switzerland for more than 6 nights or 7 days. Persons entering Switzerland will be informed directly by the authorities via text message and email about the testing requirement and will receive a link where they have to upload the test certificates. Rapid antigen tests are free of charge, PCR tests are subject to a charge.

Persons entering Switzerland from a border area are exempt from the testing requirement and do not have to complete an entry form. In addition, the test is waived between days four and seven. This regulation applies to the entire border region. However, this only applies if the persons do not travel with a long-distance bus company or by air. Otherwise, they must also record their contact details and present a negative test at boarding.

Border regions are:

  • Germany: Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria
  • France: Grand-Est, Bourgogne/Franche Comté and Auvergne/Rhône-Alpes
  • Italy: Piedmont, Valle d'Aosta, Lombardy and Trentino/South Tyrol
  • Austria: Tyrol and Vorarlberg
  • Liechtenstein: entire Principality

2G Certificate Requirement

In all indoor areas according to the following list, a general Covid certificate requirement applies to all persons aged 16 and over. Only vaccinated and recovered persons have access to these areas (2G). Furthermore, masks are compulsory and people are required to sit down when eating and drinking.

  • Restaurants, mountain huts and bars
  • Indoor areas of hotels e.g. restaurant, breakfast room, diner room, hotel bar, wellness area (2GPlus)
  • Cultural and leisure facilities such as museums, libraries, zoos, fitness centres, sports facilities, climbing gyms, billiard halls or casinos.
  • Events such as concerts, theatre, cinema, sporting events, out-of-town private events such as weddings in venues open to the public
  • Trade and public fairs
  • Private events inside until max. 30 people

2GPlus Requirement

Where neither mask wearing nor compulsory sitting is possible, only vaccinated and recovered persons who can also show a negative test result are permitted (2GPlus). This rule applies for example to:

  • Discos, clubs
  • Bars
  • Indoor swimming pools
  • Wellness areas and indoor swimming pools in hotel facilities

The testing requirement does not apply to adolescents up to 16 years of age. In addition, persons whose complete vaccination, booster vaccination or recovery was not more than four months ago are exempt from mandatory testing. Establishments and events subject to the 2G rule may voluntarily apply 2GPlus, waiving the mask and seat requirement. Please contact the establishment directly to find out which regulation applies.

Rules for ski resorts

No certificate is required for the use of mountain railroads. Mouth-nose protection does not have to be worn on open ski lifts and chairlifts, but it does have to be worn in all indoor areas and in closed means of transport such as cable cars and gondolas. Operators may also impose a more extensive mask requirement for outdoor areas, e.g. when queuing. Only vaccinated and convalescent persons with a certificate have access to the indoor areas of restaurants.

Do I need a Certificate at a Hotel?

No certificate is required for the overnight stay in the hotel including check-in and moving to the guestroom. However, the certificate requirement (2G) applies to hotel services in indoor areas such as breakfast, restaurant, bar, sports, etc. For the wellness area and for indoor pools that are part of the hotel complex, guests also need a negative test (2GPlus). This applies even if they are used solely by hotel guests.
